There's no app in the middle of that and no stranger pulling up instead. Once he has the address and a time, the number he sends back is what you pay, and he's usually at the curb before you've finished getting your shoes on.

Whatever he quotes you is what you pay, so a wreck on the Connector that turns twenty minutes into fifty is his problem to sit in rather than yours to pay for.
Nothing surges, no meter is running while you wait at a light, and there's no line at the bottom of a receipt you didn't see coming.

Dinner downtown, an early appointment in Buckhead, the ride home from a night you'd rather not drive back from. Text him the day before and he can usually make it work.

Give it two or three trips and he'll know which terminal you fly out of, that you'd rather nobody talked to you before six in the morning, and that your street is easier to catch coming from the north end.
None of that survives being handed to whoever happens to be nearest, which is the one thing an app has never been able to do.

It's a big SUV, so the luggage goes in the back rather than on somebody's lap, which is the honest reason most families call instead of stacking two rideshares.
Cold water in the door, a charger for whatever you brought, and the back seat gets vacuumed between runs rather than on Sunday night.

First time was a 5am to the airport and I honestly wasn't in any mood to talk, and he could tell, so he left me alone the whole way. I've used him plenty of times since and it's been the same car and the same person every trip, and at some point I just stopped shopping around.
